June 26, 2022 - Fly to Cape May for Breakfast

We had beautiful flying weather this Sunday so a bunch of us at Essex Skypark headed to Cape May for breakfast.  Lynnette was over in Israel and Germany sightseeing so I have been flying a lot lately.  This is my fifth day in a row of flying!  This is the way it should always be!

Here I am looking down at Jenkins Airport and "Airplane Boneyard".  It has one, maybe two grass runways and although a public use airport, is privately owned by Joe C. Jenkins, who flew P-61 Black Widow nightfighters in World War Two.

Now I'm looking over at Dover Air Force Base, home of the big C-17 cargo jets.

Located at Dover Air Force Base is the Air Mobility Command Museum, shown below at right.

Chuck B. and I practicing how we're going to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the "EAA"  in a month.

Feet wet!  Heading out over the Delaware Bay.

Four oil tankers, swinging at anchor, riding high, empty.

Looking at Cape May.  The ferry that runs between Cape May and Cape Henlopen is underway.

Looking down at Cape May Airport, formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood.

On final for runway 19.  The runway lights were on for some reason.  The picture doesn't capture how pretty it was.

RVs of Essex Skypark.  Mark (RV-8), Chuck (RV-7A), Me (RV-7)

The Museum's F-14 was outside and looking like it is ready for an ACM hop.

Some other RVs I have never seen before were on the ramp, including this RV-4 with an interesting camouflage paint job.  Callsign "Daddyman".  OK!

A very patriotic RV-8A.

Another RV-8A, this one with a definite U.S. Air Force flavor.

I was parked next to this "Sling" light sport aircraft.  I'd heard of this South African kitplane, but never seen one before.

Even Dr. Tom was on hand, with his mighty Maule.  Good thing he has those Tundra tires for this rough field!

Tom and his passenger get photo-bombed after a nice breakfast at the Flight Deck Diner.

Before heading home, we cruised up the Jersey Shore a little, then crossed the peninsula and flew up the south Jersey marsh.  The three RVs in trail weaved back and forth behind Tom in the Maule.

Appoaching the Chester River.

Cruising up the Chester River.

Looks like a tour boat of some sort.

A fast mover crosses the Chesapeake Bay.

Back at Essex Skypark, I checked on the status of the RV-4 which is being renovated.
